Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum
Company Overview
Founded in 1994 on the former Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum ('Wings') is a non-profit community organization dedicated to unlocking dreams of flight through exhibits, local events, and educational programming. We are Colorado’s premier Air & Space Museum having been recognized by CNN Travel as one of their '20 Best' aviation museums in the world. Each year we welcome roughly 160,000 visitors representing all 50 states and dozens of countries internationally. Wings is committed to diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. The Museum boasts more than 100,000 sq. ft. of open hangar space full of iconic aircraft, space vehicles, historical artifacts, and more. Visitors can experience thrilling flight simulators, discover educational programs, and participate in one of our many exciting Museum-sponsored events.
Our second location - Exploration of Flight ('EoF') - is a flight-focused educational extension. Built in 2018 on a 15-acre campus at the Centennial regional airport (APA), EoF offers showcase events with a variety of aircraft, aviation immersion programs, pilot ground training, and real flight experiences. EoF is home to our Blue Sky Gallery exhibit and interactive aviation center featuring an airworthy fleet of civilian and military aircraft.
Company History
When Lowry Air Force Base closed in 1994, the U.S. Air Force transferred custody of the former training facility to a small group of dedicated volunteers from the Lowry Heritage Museum. Using on-site aircraft loaned from the U.S.A.F., they formed Wings Over the Rockies Museum. A prime example of adaptive reuse, Hangar No.1 became the permanent home of Wings Museum and remains a prominent landmark in east Denver's redeveloped Lowry Field neighborhood. Wings became Colorado’s official air and space museum in 1997. In 2011, the Museum got a new entrance area, and the enormous Boeing B-52 was raised onto its pedestals. Over the years our collection has expanded and diversified to include spacecraft and civilian aircraft. Today Wings is recognized as one of the premier aviation and space museums in the world offering amazing interactive experiences and world-class historical exhibits.
