The Ukrainian Museum was founded in 1976 and fulfills its mission to collect, preserve, and exhibit articles of artistic or historic significance of the rich heritage of Ukrainian Americans. It holds an outstanding permanent collection of folk art, fine art, and archival material. In 2005 the Museum built and moved into a state-of-the-art building in Manhattan’s vibrant East Village and has become known as one of the most interesting and dynamic smaller museums in New York City. Each year, the Museum organizes several exhibitions, often in cooperation with museums in Ukraine, publishes bilingual (English/Ukrainian) researched catalogues, and presents a wide range of public and educational programs, including concerts, films, lectures, courses, workshops, and special events.
