Rye Historical Society
Company Overview
The Rye Historical Society is a nonprofit organization, accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, devoted to preserving and celebrating the unique historic heritage of Rye, New York and the surrounding areas. Concerned Rye citizens founded the Society in 1964 to restore and preserve the Square House, a historically significant 18th-century inn owned by the City of Rye, which the Society now maintains as a house museum open to the public. The Society later acquired the Timothy Knapp House, Westchester County’s oldest surviving house, now the Society’s archival and research center and a center for public events, which is in need of substantial upgrade. In addition to managing the Square House and the Knapp House, the Society houses the City of Rye’s official historic archives and serves the community through school, vacation and summer camp programs for children, lectures, exhibits, walking tours and numerous family and community events throughout the year.
