Company Overview
The Museums of Oglebay Institute - Mansion Museum & Glass Museum, accredited by the American Association of Museums since 1972, are part of a multi-disciplinary (performing arts, visual arts, dance and environmental education in addition to the Museums) arts organization recognized as one of the oldest arts councils in the United States. Located in Oglebay Resort, Wheeling, WV, the museums' collections are housed in a Greek Revival mansion with a three-level gallery addition built in 1966. A separate gallery with a working hot glass studio houses the collection of Wheeling-made glass. The collections are comprised of objects, archival items and photographs within six categories: Oglebay Family, Archives, Decorative Arts (primarily period room furnishings), Wheeling Glass, Wheeling China and Local History. The museums use the collections as the basis of a wide variety of public programming including exhibits, tours, special events, classes, lectures, camps, school programs and more. The staff consists of a full time Director, Assistant Director and Curator, a part time Curator of Glass, Housekeeper and two part time Glassblowers, a corps of Customer Service Representatives and a Maintenance employee shared by the programing departments of Oglebay Institute.
