The Museum of Photographic Arts (MoPA) is one of the nation's premier institutions dedicated solely to photography and film. Located in historic Balboa Park, our world class museum offers an annual calendar of exceptional exhibitions, educational programs, films, and lifespan learning opportunities. Each year over 100,000 patrons visit MoPA with an additional 96,000 yearly visits to our main website, along with another 102,000 yearly visits to our CARE (Collaborative Arts Resources for Education) Program website. They leave with a diverse and enriching visual art experience, unique to San Diego and the national photographic community.
As one of only three independent photography museums in the nation and the only independent museum in California devoted to lens-based imagery, MoPA values innovation and education. We believe photography is the visual currency of our time —that its power exists well beyond institutional walls. We want our patrons to understand this paradigm, and believe the hallmark of a successful museum visit is an enlightened mind.
