Museum of Glass is an institution accredited by the American Association of Museums which opened in downtown Tacoma, Washington in July 2002 as an international center for innovation, exhibition and education about contemporary glass. The opening of the Museum was the culmination of seven years of planning that resulted in the establishment of a major new arts institution that has attracted international attention for its design, programming and commitment to education and community. Museum facilities include 13,000 square feet of exhibition space, a hot glass studio and amphitheater with live demonstrations, a theater for video and performing arts, a studio for hands-on education activities and a mobile hot shop that goes out into the community extending MOG’s educational programming. More than one million people from every state in the U.S. and 40 foreign countries have visited the Museum since its opening and over 500 million people have read or heard about the Museum through extensive media coverage. Annually MOG welcomes approximately 165,000 visitors.
Museum of Glass is situated along the Thea Foss Waterway in the heart of Tacoma’s downtown district, an area characterized by new residential and commercial development. Attracting artists and visitors from around the world, the Museum is an anchor in the revitalization of downtown Tacoma.
