Company Profile

Historic Westville

Company Overview

Historic Westville is a living history museum formerly located in Lumpkin, Georgia. Originally founded in 1929 by John W. West of Jonesboro, Georgia, as “The Fair of 1850”, it interpreted Georgia history until 1966 when its buildings and collections were moved to Lumpkin, Georgia, to become a new historic museum village (Historic Westville) in Lumpkin, Georgia. With its relocation to Columbus, Georgia, Historic Westville, Inc. will take a modern look at the past. Using modern museum methods with a hands-on twist, Westville challenges the familiar through the exploration of various perspectives, including Native, European, and African Americans. Westville exhibits the diverse experiences of southern peoples by demonstrating how their lives were linked but their experiences differed due to race, class, and gender. By exploring these complex historic truths, we actively explore how our own modern perspectives influence how we understand the past.
