Company Overview

Harriet Beecher Stowe is the author of “Uncle Toms Cabin,” which changed the way Americans viewed slavery and influenced the abolition movement before the Civil War. Stowe, the most widely read 19th century American author wrote more than thirty books and was a member of the culturally significant Beecher family. The Stowe Center is a museum, program center, and research library, which includes three historic buildings on 2.5-acres with extensive library and artifact collections.

The Stowe Center mission is to preserve and interpret Harriet Beecher Stowe Hartford home and the Center historic collections, create a forum for vibrant discussion of her life and work, and inspire individuals to embrace and emulate her commitment to social justice by effecting positive change.
