GulfQuest / National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico
Company Overview
Opening in 2015 on Mobile’s downtown waterfront, GulfQuest will be the first museum in the nation dedicated to the maritime heritage and culture of the Gulf of Mexico.
Beyond its focus on the Gulf of Mexico, GulfQuest will be unique among maritime museums by featuring interactive exhibits, complemented by displays of artifacts and memorabilia. As an interactive maritime museum, GulfQuest will immerse visitors of all ages in experiences that are educational and entertaining, encouraging them to embark on their own quest to explore maritime aspects of the Gulf of Mexico.
This $62 million project stems from a public-private partnership between the City of Mobile, which was responsible for building the 90,000 sq. ft. facility, and a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that has underwritten the creation of the exhibits and will operate the maritime museum. The position is being filled by the non-profit, which operates independently from, and in partnership with, the City of Mobile.
