Company Overview
The EarlyWorks Children’s Museum is a 49,000 square-foot hands-on history museum. The target audience is children ages 2-10 and their families with a focus on local and regional history. Featured exhibits include interactive play areas, a full-size replica of a historic keel boat, an African American History exhibit, an interactive indoor town square and a talking tree to share stories of Alabama’s past. School programs are offered for grades PreK-5th, covering topics such as Alabama history, African American history, and special holiday programs.
Constitution Hall Park is a reconstruction of downtown Huntsville as it was in 1819. The site includes four buildings that are reconstructed atop their original foundations, including the cabinet shop where the first Alabama constitutional convention was held. Other interpretive buildings have been added to give context to life in 1819, including a carriage house, stable, necessary house, and working blacksmith forge. Constitution Hall Park is a public history park with outdoor areas that are free and open to the public. Indoor areas are accessible through special programs and daily tours given by costumed interpreters. The target audience for the daily tours is adults with extra options available for children attending with their family. School programs are offered for grades 1-5, including topics on daily life, skills and trades, political representation, the impact of slavery in Alabama, and other community connections to the political process.
The Historic Huntsville Depot opened in 1860 and is one of the oldest remaining railroad structures in the country. This historic building is placed on the National Register of Historic Places and sits within a 5-acre public park. During the Civil War, the Depot was controlled by the Union and used as a prison to hold Confederate prisoners of war. The museum features original graffiti left behind by those prisoners. The historic building is only available by tours presented by staff interpreters. The park also features a Porter Locomotive, multiple train cars, an Auto House that holds historic vehicles and a train-themed children’s playroom. School programs are offered for grades Pre-K through Middle School and cover topics of transportation history and the Civil War.
