The Dayton Art Institute is housed in a classic Renaissance-inspired building overlooking the Great Miami River and downtown Dayton. Founded in 1919, the museum’s permanent collections are housed in 46 galleries, totaling more than 75,000 square feet of gallery space. The museum completed a $24 million expansion and renovation, reinstalling every gallery, in 1997. The museum’s attendance averages 130,000 to 150,000 visitors annually.

The Dayton Art Institute’s collections have grown to include more than 26,000 works of art representing over 5,000 years of art history and cultures from around the world with strengths ranging from Asian and American to European and African. Photography, Ancient, pre-Columbian, Oceanic, and 20th century glass art round out the collections. The Dayton Art Institute is committed to enriching the community by creating meaningful experiences with art that are available to all.
