Company Overview
Alabama Historical Commission is the State Historic Preservation Office for Alabama. In addition, AHC operates 11 historic sites that are staffed and open to the public.
Company History
AHC was established in 1966 by an act of the Alabama Legislature. Its mission is to protect, preserve, and interpret Alabama's historic places.
As the State Historic Preservation Office, we help protect and preserve cultural resources throughout Alabama. We offer advice and assistance in historic preservation, care of historic cemeteries, preservation planning, and archaeology.
AHC owns and operates historic sites throughtout Alabama, the latest of which is Montgomery's historic Greyhound Bus Station, now site of the Freedom Rides Museum. Other sites include four National Historic Landmarks, house museums, forts, the State Capitol, and the first State capital.
